Historic Cooking Class This Friday

Posted:

Lynchburg, VA - You can take a cooking class right here in Lynchburg that teaches you to make the sort of food they made way back to the 1740s.

Point of Honor is offering the class this Friday. You get to see how food was made before appliances came into the kitchen.

It's food like chicken and biscuits--boiled, stewed, and roasted over an open fire.

Organizers say they hope people see the food isn't that different. But the way it's cooked really has evolved over time.

"Really getting across to people that whole process that was being down in a kitchen like this. This is how people cooked. Electricity was many, many years away so for this period it's hearth cooking," said Rachel Deddens, the teacher.

The class is 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., and it's $20 per person. There will be another cooking class March 23.
