Blacksburg - Mike Scott scored 20 points and Sammy Zeglinski had 13, all in the second half, and No. 25 Virginia hung on to beat Virginia Tech 61-59 Tuesday night.
For the second game in a row, the Cavaliers (21-6, 8-5 Atlantic Coast Conference) held an opponent scoreless for more than eight minutes in the second half to rally. Tech hit just one field goal in the final 13 minutes of the game and that came in the final minute.
The Hokies led by 7 with 13 minutes left, but then remained stuck on 49 points for some eight-and-a-half minutes as Virginia went on a 14-0 run to go up seven.
Erick Green led the Hokies with 19 points, all but two in the second half.
Virginia Tech drops to 15-and-13 overall, 4-and-9 in the ACC.
The Hokies play at Duke Saturday at noon, while the Cavaliers host North Carolina Saturday afternoon at 4.
