
Tuesday night was a big night for the Heritage and Rustburg girls and boys basketball teams.
All four teams won their first-round regional games to advance to region semifinal action.
The Rustburg girls won in dramatic fashion over Northside, Michelle Heath hit a three from just inside the half court line at the buzzer to avoid defeat and force overtime. The Red Devils went on to win in the extra period 74-69. They'll play Brookville Thursday.
The Rustburg boys edged Northside 53-51, getting 22 points from Marshall Wood. The Red Devils play region top seed Rockbridge County Wednesday night at 6 at Brookville High School.
The Heritage girls defeated Harrisonburg 67-58. Chantal Colmore and Kadijah Anderson led the Pioneers with 17 points each. Heritage plays Staunton River Wednesday night at 7:30 at Harrisonburg High School.
The Heritage boys also beat Harrisonburg in overtime 76-68. Jeremy Hill led the Pioneers with 24 points. Heritage will face Broadway Thursday night at 8 at Staunton River High School.
The Dan River boys stayed unbeaten on the season, rolling over Clarke County 55-33.
The William Campbell boys routed Altavista 63-34.
