Lynchburg, VA - Some familiar faces are gracing the pages of national magazines for a new advertising campaign promoting Lynchburg.
The campaign called "Meet Lynchburg" features a local World War II vet, chef, professional fisherman and a skier.
Each ad includes their picture, a brief introduction of who they are along with a QR code.
They can be scanned by smart phones to read more about that heroes' story, read a chef's special recipe, or watch a video about an athlete.
Lynchburg's tourism director says it's the first campaign of its kind.
"Our whole philosophy behind the ‘Meet Lynchburg' and using local Lynchburg heroes is to not only promote Lynchburg, but to forge that emotional tie between a potential visitor and our area before they even make the decision to come," said Beckie Nix.
The city is spending more than $500,000 to feature the ads in print and online publications.
