Danville, VA -- Police were called to North Avenue in Danville on Saturday after a call that an animal was wrapped in masking tape. When they unwrapped him, they discovered a rat with his back legs also bound together. The rat, now named Herman, has injuries to his stomach and legs, but he is recovering.
"Some people will make fun of the story, 'Oh cruelty to a rat.' But the fact is that anybody who would do that to a rat would do that to a cat or a dog or any other animal," said Paulette Dean, director of the Danville Humane Society.
Police suspect that someone young did this act of animal cruelty. The Humane Society is offering up to a $500 reward for information leading to the arrest.
