Update 6:20 p.m.:
Roanoke, VA - Union officials say postal management reaffirmed at the meeting Wednesday that after May 15, post office officials plan to move forward with consolidation. Those plans include closing mail distribution and processing centers in Roanoke and Lynchburg. However, the union officials add that any such move would be based on whether first class postage changes are approved.
If the closure continues as planned, it would be the end of the Roanoke and Lynchburg postmarks as mail would be shipped to Greensboro for processing.
