Lynchburg, VA - A Lynchburg woman is about to go under the knife to donate a part of her body to someone she has never met.
Kim Little is donating a pint of bone marrow in an attempt to save someone's life with Leukemia, and she has never once seen or talked to this person. In fact, she does not even know this person's name due to confidentially agreements. She says she is doing it because it is her calling from God.
"I just thought if it's something, a small gift that I can give that can be re-grown in a matter of weeks then why not. If it could help extend one's life or even save a life then why wouldn't I?" said Little.
The idea came to Little four years ago in North Carolina where she used to live when a fellow church member fell ill.
"One Saturday we all got together and swabbed our cheeks and submitted those samples in hopes of being a match for him," said Little.
No one did, but Little chose to stay on the donor registry. Low and behold, four years later, she got a phone call. She was a perfect match to a middle-aged male.
"I don't know much about this person other than they have Leukemia. I don't know where they live, I don't know that much about them at all and I don't think they know that much about me," Little said.
Without thinking twice about it, she began undergoing testing. She passed them all with flying colors.
"You do get sore after being stuck in the same spot in the same vein several times but in the scheme of things I realize that this is nothing compared to what a patient with Leukemia really does go though on a regular basis," she said.
Little calls the phone call a blessing, saying she believes there is a reason she is a perfect match.
"I really believe that my life here is a gift from God. I've been blessed with the gift of life and if He chooses to use me in a way to bless someone else, then that's what I'm going to do," Little said.
In the coming weeks, she will undergo the surgery in North Carolina, which should take about four hours. The bone marrow will be taken from both hips. We will follow her story and bring you updates.
