Lynchburg, VA - Scams are everywhere these days: online, on the phone and sometimes they'll walk right to your front door.
Thursday night at Randolph College a man is going to explain why humans fall for these scams and how to avoid doing it.
Founder of Skeptic magazine, Michael Shermer, spoke to a group of students earlier Thursday. He is well known for his efforts to debunk scientific myths.
In short, he says it's all in the brain--saying magic and science sort unweave that rainbow of uncertainty. Shermer used magic tricks to demonstrate his theory.
"If I tell you there's something magical about the number three you'll start noticing it on addresses and license plates it's all about picking up the patterns that you've been primed," he said.
Shermer will be speaking at Randolph College at 7:30 p.m. His speech is titled: "Why People Believe Weird Things."
