Lynchburg, VA - Monday was the first day the U.S. Supreme Court got its hands on President Obama's signature domestic achievement: the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.

The first issue justices tackled stems from Liberty Counsel's lawsuit- Liberty v. Geithner.

Justices looked at whether it's too early for a ruling because Americans aren't required yet to pay the penalty for not having insurance. Justices ruled that issue won't stand and the case will move forward.

Liberty Counsel officials say this is a big week for the president.

"If it's ultimately struck down entirely, it's a huge blow to President Obama and his attempt to be re-elected as President. It is a major rejection of his ideology, and his philosophy and of his entire presidency," said Dean Mathew Staver.

Tuesday justices will take a look at the constitutionality that Americans without health insurance must buy it.
