Martinsville, VA- The New College Institute plans to extend their Martinsville Campus.
The fundraising process will begin over the next year to acquire the $10 to $15 million that will be needed to build a new technology center.
City council will begin discussions next week on using the land known as Baldwin's Block in Uptown Martinsville near Fayette St.
The primary focus areas at the new building will be STEM-H fields, which are science, technology, engineering, math and healthcare.
"The younger generation... they are already more advanced than the rest of us in terms of technology, so we want to make sure that we can provide to them the places to connect not only with individuals but also with technology throughout the facility and our learning centers" said Dr. Leanna Blevins, a NCI associate director & chief academic officer.
Dr. Blevins expects the entire process to be completed by or before 2015.
The area is named for Dr. Dana Baldwin an African American pharmacist who practiced there in the early to mid-twentieth century.
