Lynchburg, VA - Some local groups put together a vigil for Trayvon Martin on Saturday. They say they wanted show that there is support for the Martin family, right here in Lynchburg.
About 60 people gathered together at Monument Terrace for the vigil put on by the Citizens for Community Support and Advocacy group. Event organizers say they wanted a way to keep Trayvon's memory alive. So they called the event the "Stand for Justice" vigil.
Local Leaders prayed and called the community to action.
"The greatest thing about this event is one voice, one face, but more importantly how to prevent a tragedy such as this, and one prized possession that everyone has is the right to vote so laws like this, that allow this to happen, will never happen in Virginia," said Rev. Stuart Jones, organizer.
Some of the groups involved Saturday include the Lynchburg Voters League, The Citizens for Community Support and Advocacy (CCSA), and the Lynchburg Peace Education Center.
Organizers hope to have more events like this in the next few weeks.
