Amherst Co., VA - Volunteer Fire Department sent a few firefighters and some equipment to help with the wildfires.
The volunteer firefighters are part of the department of forestry's hot shot crew and have already been helping for a few days now. They are usually sent to fires that need more manpower to get them under control.
Director of Public Safety Gary Roakes says they wish they could send more firefighters out there, but they just don't have the resources.
"We have the apparatus that we can send, but we just don't have the personnel that we can send and so we do have to protect our own county and if we did have resources we can send we would definitely do that," said Roakes.
The firefighters are expected to come home within the next two to three days.
