Surveillance Shows Men Robbing Store

Reporter: Heather Rosenbaum

Danville, VA -- There is a disturbing surveillance tape of a Danville store being robbed.  It happened at The Stop By Food Store on West Main Tuesday at around 10:30 p.m.

The surveillance tape caught the whole thing on camera. It shows two men entered the store with guns pointing at the clerk. The woman working immediately runs toward the back of the store, out of the view of the cameras.

One of the robbers chased her to the back where police say they assaulted her, giving her minor injuries. The two men took a register and stole around $1,000, according to the store owner. The clerk says that the men shot outside of the store as they were leaving.

"This is a serious offense. We commonly call it a strong-arm robbery but when we have someone that has been assaulted and we have a shot fired you know we are very fortunate that no one was seriously injured," said Cpt. Matt Carter with the Danville Police Department.

Police searched the area including using K9 units, but came up empty. They ask that if you know anything about this robbery please give them a call.
