Hillcats Stay Unbeaten

Lynchburg -  The Lynchburg Hillcats are off to their best start in the franchise's 18-year history dating back to 1995.

The Hillcats beat 460 rival Salem 4-1 Wednesday night to improve to 5-and-0 on the season.  Again, the Cats got great pitching.  Starter Cody Martin threw five shutout innings, striking out six and allowing just three hits.

Lynchburg took the lead with three runs in the third, then added another in the fourth on David Rohm's double to right, Chris Garcia scored to make it 4-0 Cats.

That would be more than enough as the Red Sox managed just six hits.  Salem did get on the board in the sixth, Brandon Jacobs' broken-bat single brought in Shannon Wilkerson who had tripled.

But 'Cats pitchers allowed no more runs.

Lynchburg goes for the series sweep of Salem and a 6-and-0 start Thursday night, 6:05 at Calvin Falwell Field.
