Forest, VA - The Jefferson Forest Girls Soccer team is hosting a 5K race at the high school Saturday morning.
The 5K starts at 8 a.m. and is followed by a one mile race at 9 a.m.. All proceeds benefit the Blue Ridge Autism and Achievement Center.
One of the girls on the team says the cause hits home for her. Her autistic brother served as inspiration for the event.
"He's just somebody that's changed my life a lot and how I act and how I view things, he's just somebody that I love, very dearly," said Jessica O'Bryant, who helped organize the race.
"I think it's a great cause, and I'm very excited that the girls have decided to do a cause for Autism, and it is Autism Awareness Month," said Mary Sue O'Bryant, Jessica's mother.
Apart from the race, there will be a raffle for prizes like an iPod touch.
So far 132 people have pre-registered. Online registration has ended but you can still sign up Saturday at the race.
