Lynchburg, VA- Hundreds of people came out to the Heart and Sole Shoe market in Lynchburg on Saturday.
The shoe sale event is put on by CASA, or Court Appointed Special Advocates, at the City Armory downtown.
It's serves as an annual fundraiser for the group, supporting about 20% of their budget.
Another group, Operation Christmas Child, set up a table at the sale. About 10 volunteers collected empty shoeboxes from the shoppers. They'll send out the packages of toys and Bibles to kids around the world later this year.
"They throw them in the dumpster and then they just go to the landfill. We can fill them up instead of paying 25 cents a box, and this past year we collected 8.5 million boxes around the world, but the need is like 5 or 6 thousand times that so it's unreal what the need is for boxes around the world," said Tammy Fielder, the Coordinator for the Piedmont Area Team.
Operation Christmas Child collected hundreds of boxes Saturday. Last year, they collected more than a thousand at Casa's sale.
