Lynchburg, VA - Classes were moved outside Monday for some of Lynchburg's fifth graders. About 250 students took part in Urban Agricultural Day.
The Lynchburg Extension Agency put it together outside Lynchburg Grows. The event included five interactive stations with farm animals and plants.
Organizers say they developed this day to help both teachers and students.
"It's really important, I think, for the children to learn how agriculture can teach them and also for the teachers, that they can take these programs, what they're learning into the classrooms so they can supplement their standards of learning," said Kevin Camm, extension agent for Lynchburg.
Monday's event also included a hands-on breadmaking session. The fifth graders made more than 500 loaves of bread for local organizations.
