Copper Thefts Causes Outages

Lynchburg, VA - Officials have more information on a power outage that left about 1,100 Appalachian Power customers in the Lynchburg region in the dark.

A spokesperson for the company says someone stole copper wiring from the Boxwood Substation around 5 p.m.

That's really concerning to company officials because it's the first time they've had someone steal from energized equipment in this area .

There was another instance in the Roanoke area earlier this year.

The power was restored around 11 p.m. Tuesday.
