The Golden Eagles bats came alive on Friday night and Oral Roberts topped Western Illinois 9-3 at J.L. Johnson Stadium.

The Golden Eagles, who started the game 1-8 versus left-handed starters, wasted no time jumping on Western Illinois' lefty Nick Smith, scoring a run in the bottom of the first with a Trevino single to score Cho. ORU extended the lead to 2-0 in the second with a groundout byLogan Domenico that scored Jake O'Brien.
Western Illinois was able to rally in the sixth and tie the game 2-2, but ORU answered right back by scoring four runs in the sixth off back-to-back walks with the bases loaded and a two-run single by Bennett Pickar. Goro and Trevino's home runs in the seventh inning scored three more runs to put the game out of reach, 9-2.
The series will resume on Saturday at J.L. Johnson Stadium with a doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m.
