Roanoke Man Pleads Guilty in Theft

Lynchburg, VA - A Roanoke man pleaded guilty to federal charges Tuesday in Lynchburg.

Risden Richardson waived his right to be indicted and pleaded to one charge of theft of government money.

Prosecutors say Richardson started getting more than $1,300 in monthly disability for a back disorder in 1998.

According to Social Security Administration policy, people can't earn more than $1,000 or work more than 80 hours per month.

Richardson admits he didn't report that he was also working as a contractor.

Records show that he earned more than $1 million over eight years from his work.
