Salem, VA - The Salem VA teamed up with the Virginia Employment Commission Wednesday for a veterans only job fair that organizers call a great success.
Hundreds took part in the event which was held at the VA. Employers from all over the region took the time to work with veterans looking for work or looking to get better work.
Getting veterans off the street and employed has been a big endeavor of President Obama. It's one of the driving factors that led to this event, which gained momentum through social networking.
"It's just brought us a tremendous amount of veterans. We had nearly 300 veterans in the first hour and a half. So we're gonna get 'em jobs," said Harry White with the Virginia Employment Commission.
The Regional Veterans Job Fair falls in line with The Vow to Hire Heroes Act of 2011, which grants employers special tax benefits for hiring veterans.
