Lynchburg VA - Five years after a Lynchburg doctor was killed in a cycling accident, his close friends are trying to turn that tragedy into a lasting legacy.
The Dr. John Bell Bicycling Awareness Memorial Fund is partnering with Region 2000, V-DOT and other officials to put "Share the Road" signs along several routes. The roads are highly traveled by cyclists and include Trents Ferry, Coffee and River Roads.
It's a sport Dr. Bell's friends say was his passion.
"For some people its gold, or it's fishing, but for Dr. Bell it was cycling and he really rallied a lot of people around the sport," said fund organizer Jack Parker.
Right now, the goal is to raise enough money to purchase the signs.
