Philip Sims Transferring to Virginia

LCA's Michael Rocco now has even more competition as UVa's quarterback.

Philip Sims out of Oscar Smith High in Chesapeake is transferring from Alabama and is headed to Charlottesville.

Sims was a backup QB on Alabama's national championship team and he could play this fall through an NCAA appeal citing family circumstances, avoiding having to sit out a year.

Sims, who originally chose Alabama over Georgia, Tennessee, FSU and Clemson, redshirted in 2010. He played in eight games in 2011, completing 64 percent of his passes with no touchdowns and two interceptions.
