Danville, VA -- Danville City Council called a special meeting Monday night to discuss the budget. Schools Superintendent Sue Davis spoke to the Council about their upcoming expenses. She cleared up the reasons behind their request for 2.1 million more dollars.
In previous meetings, the School Board had decided that if they get the money, they will not have to close a second school. According to school officials, they have cut 63 teachers over the past four years, and have lost 400 students in that time. The Council requested additional information about the School Board's budget, which they promised to get to them.
"Our city council for years and years has supported education. And I know they will do the best they can for our students," said Sue Davis, Superintendent for Danville.
The City Council will vote on the additional money for the School Board during their next meeting on May 15.
