If you've never seen them perform, this month you have the chance to see the Dance Theatre of Lynchburg on stage. "Pioneers of American Dance" will celebrate works of great choreographers. The first show is Friday, May 11 at 7 p.m. You can catch it May 11-13 and May 18-20. Tickets $12 at the door.
Saturday, May 12 is the 17th Annual Antique Rose Festival at the old City Cemetery in Lynchburg. They will have a beautiful rose collection near its peak of bloom. Then Sunday you can take mom there for the Mother's Day Rose Walk. That's 3 to 5 p.m.
If you mom is more of a wine fan, where better to celebrate her special day than in a vineyard? You can take her to Peaks of Otter Winery where there's free wine tasting noon to 5 p.m. all weekend. All moms will also get a special gift.
When's the last time you saw an old school steam locomotive? Steam engine # 17 will be at the Roanoke Rail Fest May 12 at the Virginia Museum of Transportation. You can ride behind #17 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. You can also learn all about rail history, enjoy food and music and let your kids play in the craft station. That's $5 per person. And if you can't make it Saturday, you can still catch a ride Sunday.
