Tommy La Stella homered in the sixth to snap a 4-all tie and the Hillcats held on to edge Wilmington 5-4 in the opener of a four-game series in Lynchburg Monday night.
Edward Salcedo also homered for the Hillcats, a two-run shot, going 3-for-4 at the plate as did teammate Chris Garcia.
Wilmington took a 3-2 lead in the fourth on the strength of back-to-back homers by Brian Fletcher and Brett Eibner. But the lead was short-lived as Garcia and Mychal Jones delivered rbi hits in the bottom of the frame to put Lynchburg back on top 4-3.
The Blue Rocks tied it in the sixth, only for La Stella to break the tie with his solo homer for Lynchburg in the bottom of the sixth. That would be the game-winner as the Hillcats held on for the 5-4 win.
