Franklin Co., VA - A local cemetery now offers a final resting area dedicated to a much simpler way of burial.
Mountain View Memorial Park is getting ready to open Forest Rest at Mountain View.
The 4-acre addition to the cemetery will host people looking for a more natural burial, which means the body is not treated with chemicals and is buried in something that will harmlessly decompose.
"We were beginning to get inquiries if there was anything available in our area like this and the more research we did, we began to find there was nothing like this in the southwest Virginia area like this. We had the land available and we thought this would be the best use of resources for what we could do with it," said Sandra Ensor with the park.
Caskets made of wicker or sea grass are available among others. A burial shroud is also an option.
