Former VMI and West Virginia football coach Bill Stewart has died of an apparent heart attack.
A statement issued by West Virginia University says Stewart's family notified the school Monday. Stewart coached VMI for three seasons from 1994 through '96. He later got the West Virginia head job, guiding the Mountaineers three years from 2008 through 2010. Stewart went 28-and-12 at WVU but was replaced before last season.
He coached with a lot of enthusiasm and passion, a very likeable person. Bill Stewart was 59 years old.
