Danville, VA -- A car accident Tuesday morning in a Danville neighborhood sent two people to the hospital. Emergency crews were called just after 10 a.m. to Wooding Avenue and Hughes Street.

Authorities say that the driver of the car was speeding when it hit a truck. The truck driver and passenger of the car were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Police say the driver of the car ran but was found walking around the neighborhood shortly after the accident. Charges are pending.

Neighbors say that dangerous driving is all too common. Just last month, another serious accident occurred at the same spot. A car drove into a house. Now neighbors are saying that they are not surprised about this morning's accident.

Talk to anyone at Wooding Avenue and Hughes Street and you will hear the same thing.

"They are pretty bad about speeding through," said William Powell, a driver.

And neighbors say that speeding has become more than a bad habit.

"Somebody is going to seriously get killed out here...It's real scary," said Brenda Beard, Lives Near Intersection.

"When someone is coming through an intersection, another car is coming that way speeding, you can't get out of the way and correct it," said Robbie Woodall, Chief of Danville Life Saving Crew.

All of this dangerous driving makes neighbors uneasy and drivers weary.

"People are bad about not stopping at the intersections and taking proper time to make sure nothing is coming before they cross. That's where most of the problem comes," said Powell.

"If you are speeding any intersection is dangerous. But it seems to be this is a cut through road from Ballou Park area, and it can definitely be a problem," said Woodall.

After living at this intersection for four years, Brenda Beard knows to take precautions.

"I don't allow my son to walk to the store down there. Because they just come through, the buses come through here flying," said Beard.

She has even considered moving just for the safety for her family.

"It's nothing new! But something needs to be done," said Beard.

Police say in the past year, they have had three reportable accidents at that intersection. They say doesn't "support enforcement beyond normal levels."

Traffic Control officials say the number of accidents warrants them to look into adding more safety precautions.
