Lynchburg, VA - So many agencies and churches work toward helping the hungry in our community, and now the United Way is hoping to get everyone on the same page.
Friday morning they gathered all the parties together for a discussion called "Uniting Communities on Hunger." The United Way, Meals on Wheels, the Central Virginia Area Agency on Aging and Genworth Financial led the presentation. Leaders feel they can better serve the needy by joining forces.
"We are realizing that there is a tremendous amount of effort in Lynchburg being provided to folks who are in need of food, and we want to make sure that that effort is coordinated," said Deborah Silverman, executive director Central Virginia Area Agency on Aging.
Some organizations provide food, some provide healthy eating lessons, and others are referral and information only, so they're hoping collaboration will streamline the process.
