Bedford County - Jefferson Forest pole vaulter Ken Ritchey, seeded number one heading into Friday night's state meet in Harrisonburg, has signed with the Liberty Flames to continue his track and field and academic career.
Ritchey's dad teaches at LU, his sisters and mom attend classes there.
The former gymnast has gone up nearly two feet on the bar in one year and with a new longer pole, the sky's the limit.
Ken Ritchey said "I've gotten 15 3-and-a-half, my p-r, with a 14-and-a-half foot pole. So I'm on a 15-foot pole now so that should technically take me up another six inches at least. So we'll see."
