Appomattox Athletes Headed to Ferrum

Appomattox County - The Appomattox County Raiders honored two more student athletes who'll continue their academic and athletic careers at the next level.  Baseball's Jake Perkins and softball's Heather Mayberry are both taking their talents to Ferrum College.

The seniors will also represent Appomattox in the Virginia Coaches Association All-Star Games in Hampton in July.

Heather Mayberry said "I'm hoping to go in there and start as a freshman.  I just have to go in there with an open mind and have a good work ethic and work hard."

Jake Perkins said "I saw that a lot of people get drafted out of Ferrum so I was hoping to go up there and get drafted."

Perkins and the Appomattox County baseball team locked up a state tournament berth with Wednesday night's win at Goochland.
