Lynchburg, VA - Desegregation was a time of major social change in our community, and some want to make sure we don't forget it.
Saturday, many who lived during integration gathered to share their personal experiences. The event was at the Lynchburg Public Library. It's part of the Desegregation of Virginia Education or DOVE project. DOVE looks to preserve our history and learn from it.
About forty people came out to share their personal stories of desegregation. Those who took part say it was a learning experience for everyone.
"When you ask people okay, 'What happened in this community, what happened in this community where the schools were desegregated?' The answer was, we don't know," said Sonia Yaco, the DOVE Project.
A documentary about integration in the commonwealth was also a part of the event.
