Danville, VA – Officials are investigating a case that ended with the death of a man they say was wanted for having child pornography.

Danville police executed a search warrant in Sweetbriar Drive, but no one was home. Police say they tried to contact Don Jeffrey Scott, 54, who lives there.

Family members then contacted police, saying Scott could harm himself.

Later, police say they found child porn at Scott's house.

On Wednesday around 3:45 p.m., police located Scott's car at the Danville Memorial Gardens. They pulled up behind the stopped car and told Scott to get out. Officials say they then heard a gunshot and then found Scott with what appeared to be a gunshot wound in his chest.

Scott was pronounced dead at 5 p.m. at the Danville Regional Medical Center.

Police are investigating the incident.
