Salem, VA - A brand new Chick-fil-A will open in Salem Thursday, and devoted fans are lining up already, even pitching tents in the parking lot.
This is a Chick-fil-A tradition: 24 hours before a grand opening, the chicken chain hosts a big raffle. Fans camp out in the parking lot overnight, and the winning raffles walk away with 52 gift certificates, a year's supply of number one combo chicken meals.
Folks come from all over for the grand opening party. We met one couple from West Virginia.
"You can't get past the chicken. We ate Chick-fil-A seven days a week. We buy Saturday to complement our dinner on Sunday," said Libby Knupp, Chick-fil-A fan.
"Are you working for the company?" we asked.
"No, I'm not. I wish I was," said Knupp, laughing.
Knupp also likes that Chick-fil-A stays closed on Sundays so its employees can rest. Once again, the new Salem restaurant opens Thursday.
