Lynchburg, VA- A program aimed at helping families will now be able to reach more people thanks to a huge grant. The Healthy Families Program got more than $307,000 in grant money.
This money came from the Maternal, Infant, Early, Childhood Home Visiting Program. It will allow the program to serve an additional 300 families a year. They will also be able to add four new positions to help those with multiple children. Healthy Families works with parents from the birth of their children to five years old.
"Overall the program has very high outcomes of healthy childhood growth development and prevention of child abuse and neglect, so its overall very successful national program" said Ashley Graham, director of Healthy Families.
The program is run through the Presbyterian Homes and Family Services and Family Alliance. For the past few years, the General Assembly has cut funding to Healthy Families. This grant will keep money coming into the program for the next four years.
