Boys State Underway at Liberty University

Lynchburg, VA - Boys State officially kicked off at Liberty University's Vines Center, Sunday evening.

The week-long program provides political background and urges the men to get involved in the political process.

Around 800 high school students registered this year.

Boys State is sponsored by the American Legion and mirrors the Girls State Program.

The students will be working one on one with actual clerks from the General Assembly in Richmond.

"These kids actually get to work with the people that do this for a living so it's an educational process like none other," said Mike Harris, Director VA Boys State.

The 2012 program will include speakers like Governor McDonnell and many other state and local officials.
