Forest - Lee Fisher of Lynchburg won his THIRD STRAIGHT Central Virginia Invitational Golf Tournament Sunday. Fisher took a commanding seven-shot lead into the final round played at Ivy Hill in Forest.
After posting five-under rounds at Winton and Falling River the first two days, Fisher cooled off a bit Sunday, he was over par for the day posting a 2-over 74. Second-place Clayton Forren of Rustburg made up some ground, the 16-year-old playing in his first CVIGT shot 2-under through the first eight holes to pull within three shots.
Liberty University junior Will Bryant shot 73 Sunday, he would finish third, seven shots back.
Forren's chance for birdie at 11 just stays out, he still fired a closing 1-under 71. Fisher, with his dad Keith walking the course watching on Father's Day, keeps the lead all day, shooting 74 to win by four shots over Forren. Lee Fisher joins John Nichols as the only men golfers to win the CVIGT three years in a row.
Lee Fisher, CVIGT CHAMPION, said "You know to be in that elite group, to have three CVIGT titles, it feels great. It's a good feeling. I'm gonna take that into the State Am in two weeks and we're going to motivate off that."
Clayton Forren, CVIGT SECOND-PLACE FINISHER, said "Oh yea, I'm happy with it. I mean I shot 4-under so you can't complain, I mean you can't get greedy. I was trying to give him a run for his money but 8-under is pretty strong. I mean he played good, I mean I can't say anything about that."
Fisher finishes 8-under for three days and wins by four shots over Clayton Forren. Will Bryant takes third, seven shots back with Hunter Russell fourth and Kirk Fisher fifth.
Bobby Layne of Appomattox won the Senior Division by three shots over Doug Marshall of Appomattox. Jim Gaddy of Forest finished third.
