Lynchburg, VA - Some little helpers were on hand Monday at Lynchburg's Daily Bread. A group of students from Heritage Elementary School's Summer Academy were there handing out dinner bags they prepared to those in need.

The bags were equipped with a sandwich, chips, apple and juice. This group, consisting of second through fifth grade students, decorated the bags prior to Monday's event to add their personalized touch. The kids were there for about an hour and organizers say it was a humbling experience for many of them.

"They're actually getting to personally give back to the community so they really enjoy that," said Lauren Lesniak, Grant Coordinator at Heritage Elementary School.

The Summer Academy works with students on core curriculum topics. The two-week program also teaches students about character, leadership and giving back.
