Carolina League All-Stars Rout California League 9-1
The Carolina League routed the California League All-Stars Tuesday night 9-1 in Winston-Salem, ending the West Coast's 3-game winning streak.
Five Hillcats and four Salem Red Sox were introduced to a near sellout crowd in one of the nicest minor league ballparks in the country. J.R. Graham came on in relief in the third inning. He did walk one but got three easy outs and didn't give up a run. In the 5th, with the Carolina League ahead 4-1, Salem's Travis Shaw added a couple more runs with this TOWERING shot way out and over the fence in right, the homer made it 6-1. Overall, Hillcats batters went 2-for-9. Chris Garcia unloaded on one and sent it to the gap in left-center. That brought in a run to make it 8-1.
Tommy La Stella added a single and the Carolina League wins 9-1.
Nick Ahmed, 0-2 FOR THE CAROLINA LEAGUE (LYN), said "We came out and our pitchers dominated the game and we had some guys swing the bats really well. So overall it was a fun day and I was glad I got to enjoy it."
Travis Shaw, NAMED CO-STAR OF THE GAME (SALEM), said "This was my first All-Star game so it was definitely special. As soon as I hit it, I knew it was gone and that definitely felt good."
J.R. Graham, ALLOWED NO RUNS IN ONE INNING (LYN), said "It was awesome. The fans, it was electric. I just went out there and pitched my game. I got the one walk but he didn't score. I was happy."
