Four Carolina and four California League sluggers battled it out in a Home Run Derby before Tuesday night's All-Star Game in Winston-Salem.
With members of the Hillcats looking on, the finals featured C.J. Retherford of the Dodgers organization against Brady Shoemaker of the White Sox Winston-Salem Dash. Retherford was first and hit two home runs in the finals. Shoemaker answered that with three to claim the title in front of his own fans. Chris Garcia of the Hillcats hit three homers in the first round.
Chris Garcia said "It was definitely tough. It was really hot outside. I just came out here to have a good time and congratulations to Shoemaker for winning it in his hometown. I'm happy for him."
Justin Feldkamp - "Was it a disadvantage being a lefty?"
Garcia replied "That's what everybody was saying but a baseball field is a baseball field. I just came out here to have a good time and that was about it."
