Be Careful How You Judge by David Tate

I've always wondered when was the last time a Roanoke police officer wrote a ticket for littering. It's one of my pet peeves that has no real defense. I see it all the time and it drives me crazy. I have to assume patrolling cops do too?

Anyway... the other day, as I'm heading through town, I notice the car behind me just as a huge fast food bag goes flying out the window. I couldn't believe it!! Are you kidding me?

As luck would have it, we end up at a light together at which time I wonder out loud, "What the heck did you do that for?"

I didn't really expect a response, so as I drove I could help but notice the car was making the same turns as I was. Wow… three in a row. What a coincidence!!

I eventually pulled into the local Kroger at which time "the car" pulls up to me and a woman sheepishly looks out the window. She proceeds to go on and tell me about how she was driving down the road, got sick and reached for the only thing she had: This bag. Well… that bag didn't hold the sickness well causing said sick lady to hurl the bag from the car. That's where I entered the story.

The lady followed me because she just wanted me to know that she wasn't one of those people that litter and that she felt bad about what happened. Awfully bold, I'd say, but out of it I realized that often times, even when everything seems so cut and dry, things just aren't what they appear to be.
