App Power to Increase Rates

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) -- Virginia regulators have approved Appalachian Power's request to increase what it charges customers to recover fuel costs.

The State Corporation Commission said Thursday the new fuel rate will take effect on Friday.

It will increase the monthly bill of a residential customer using 1,000 kilowatt hours of electricity by about $7.56. Appalachian Power serves about 500,000 customers in Virginia.

Virginia law allows Appalachian Power and other utilities to bill customers for the cost of fuel used to generate electricity and the power bought to serve customers.
