Lynchburg, VA - The "Live Healthy Lynchburg" movement got a big boost after the Centra Foundation gave them $220,000.
One of the things they'll use that money for is a mobile produce bus loaded with fruits and veggies from Lynchburg Grows and other local producers.
That bus will go into what has been dubbed "food deserts" in the city, or places where people don't have access for fresh produce.
Leslie Hoglund with the Health Department says they looked at models like this in bigger cities and decided it was a easy solution to a big problem in the Hill City.
"I think as it gets going we are going to see more synergy and more excitement around it and hopefully the community will respond in a positive way."
The fresh food bus should be up and running by next year.
The Centra Foundation grant money will also help fund a physical activity bus for the YMCA, the Chamber of Commerce's Work Healthy web portal, Playworks training for Lynchburg City School elementary school teachers and a new healthy living exhibit at Amazement Square.
