Reporter: Angela Fowler - Videographer:Jonathan Merryman

Martinsville, VA- Martinsville native Derek Young started making short films with his friends at age 13.

His first, "Family Property," took three years to film. His current film, "Midnight Matinee," features several cameo roles from people like Friday the 13th's original character "Jason" and Victor Miller who wrote and created the same film. Steve Cole's of the "Amazing Race" was his director of photography.

Young's latest movie "Midnight Matinee" was screened at the VA Film Festival.

"Which really blew me away because I know they get thousands of submissions a year they only choose a 101, and the very first movie screened at the festival was the "Descendants" with George Clooney" said Young.

Now with two movies under his belt, he's excited about his next project called "Psychotic State" about a girl in a psych ward. He is looking for investors, donations and locations to film it.
