Cooking Tip from Geralds' Owner and Head Chef Michelle Hamrick:

Fresh herbs like basil, rosemary, mint and tarragon are very easy to get and grow in the summertime. Many of us don't know what to do with them, but turns out there are simple and tasty ways to use these herbs.

Hamrick's mint water with fresh blackberries is a refreshing and simple drink you can make for picnics or any summertime event.

  • Start by putting water in pot on medium heat and then add a cup of sugar. Let the sugar dissolve in the hot water.
  • Add some fresh mint into the hot water and let is stew for about 30 minutes until it becomes a simple syrup.
  • Pour the mint water into some more cool water so it's not too sweet.
  • Fill glasses with a lot of ice and put some fresh mint into glasses.
  • Pour mint water over ice and top off with fresh blackberries and voila!

Hamrick says you can always add vodka or rum to make a cocktail. For mint lemonade, just add lemon juice.

Gerald's will be featuring many fresh herb water and drinks on its menu this summer.

Additional tip using herbs:

Take fresh basil and flash fry it in fryer. Add some kosher salt and put it on top of salads to add an extra crunch.
