Bedford, VA-A new team is coming to the Bedford area to help fight the problem of domestic violence.
Bedford Domestic Violence Services is creating a fatality review team. The team will evaluate cases of domestic violence that result in homicide or suicide. There will be representatives from law enforcement, victims' advocates groups and other agencies. The team hopes to start by the end of the year.
"We're going to be able to look at patterns of domestic violence in Bedford County and Bedford city. And, if there are patterns we will be able to look at ways we can counteract them," said Leanne Dudley, director of Bedford Domestic Violence Services.
The Bedford County Board of Supervisors passed a resolution in support of the team this week. Officials say the new team will not be an additional cost to tax payers.
