Potentially Rabid Cat Seen at Bedford County Dumpster

Bedford Co., VA - A scary story out of Bedford County after a woman says she saw a rabid cat, at a county dumpster.

Locals say that a sign warning users of a rabid cat went up at a dumpster off of Route 24 on Monday. They say was put up anonymously by a county resident.

Since then, Animal Control has taken the sign down, and has checked the area. But since Monday, dumpster users say they saw the cat constantly, displaying obvious signs of rabies.

"She came running out from under the dumpster. And she was acting like she couldn't walk real good, like she was drunk. And she kept chasing her tail around and around, and her eyes were very dilated," said Barbara Mitchell, who saw the rabid cat.

The Bedford County Health Department tells us they're looking into the incident, and are asking any resident who sees an animal with rabies symptoms to contact them immediately.
