Halifax Co., VA - A state wide fundraiser is being organized in hopes of raising $100,000 in opposition of uranium mining.
Delegate James Edmunds will host the fundraiser on his Halifax County farm this September. He hopes to have 500 people attend.
Edmunds says that even though the goal may seem ambitious, none of the people that he has contacted has turned him down. His goal is to have one or more national celebrities who also live in Virginia be the spokesperson.
"If we're wrong with uranium mining we are wrong forever. There is no whoops we messed up there, you've ruined a lifestyle and generations of living in this part of the state, and I'm just not prepared to give that up yet," he said.
Edmunds says the money raised will be used for marketing efforts to keep the ban.
