Lynchburg, VA - Loss of power during Friday night's windstorm caused some big problems for Lynchburg's Wastewater Treatment plant.
The facility began discharging wastewater, not fully treated, at the rate of 250,000 gallons an hour into the James River.
Both the primary and backup power supply failed during the height of the storm.
Wastewater that was disinfected, but not fully treated, flowed into the river until about 4 p.m. Saturday.
City water officials say proper alerts have been sent out to the health department and others who use the James River downstream.
